This is the fifth year we are renting the holiday apartment in Porta Senese; of course we had to go to to Sienna. Before the Black Death, the town had a population of about 100 000. After the Black Death, there were only 30 000 left. The town was so weakened after the pestilence that the towns arch enemy, Florense won the sovereignity over the town a few years later. In order to keep this sovereignity , Florense surpressed the town, and this may be the reason why it is very well preserved. In Palazzo Publicco we could view amazing art, but Ambrogio Lorenzetti's "effects of good government" made me hilarious! What a great work! I bought a couple of books about it. It is amazing!
We did some shopping too, all for me, nothing for my husband. Go to Sienna if you can!
