Crow

Carole is this weeks host at the drawing challenge, and kindly invited me to partisipate. Instead of drawing, I use my camera. For other crows, look here:

During the week end I wanted to take photos of wild crows at our country house, but when I came to think about it, I have never, ever spottet a crow there. As I sat thinking about it, I heard those strange crowing sounds from our hoarding room. You know the room where you put all the things that you do not have the heart to throw away, cause it can be useful some day, and if not in this life, may be if there is an after life? Well, I heard those rusty, crowinglike sounds from downstairs, and there I found Svartlars. That is Black Lars, our very own crow. It, oh dear, he, was once a very cherished member of our family, and now he is almost forgotten, discarded, dusting away on a shelf together with debris from our last 25 years. Poor Svartlars. When I finally went down to him, and asked him whether he wanted to go away with us for the weekend, he was crowing with utter pleasure. Sure he would! And whether he wanted to be taken for a photoshoot? Kra-kra! He was over the hills, hilarious, rather.

Well off we went, and here you can see the results of our phfotoshoot. When it came the real thing, he was rather scared. It was so many years since  last time he breathed fresh air, it was eh, breathtaking for him. And when it came to sit in trees, looking free as the bird, (ehhmm), it rather scared his wits out. But look for yourself, I think he did rather well. I told him he was a good boy.

Cross my stiches

Thank you Nadine for hosting this weeks drawing challenge, and thank you for this weeks theme, Cross Stich

Cross my Stich, Stich my Cross, criss cross crossing, I am cross. Well I am not, just showing some of the many crosses we have around.

There has been a lot of cross stiches in my life, a lot of stiches,a lot of crossing.

It started when I was a tiny little girl, six years old. My grandauntie (my fathers aunt) Marit and her cousin had this childrens club, ah, for girls, I mean. You had to be 7 to attend to it, but I was specially chosen, I really felt I was specially chosen, to start When I was only six! I was soooooo happy, I was allowed to do embroidery for the Mission! Auntie Marit often told me that " When we that come from Brekken do the embroidery, you shall not be able to tell the difference between the two sides of your work" , meaning you should fasten the tread as invisible as possible, and not drag the tread from place to place. And I loved it! The first thing I embroidered was a pin cushion, it was yellow and black fabric that I put black Cross stiches on. Someone won it on the lottery, may be it still is in a drawer?

I knew I should do something contemporary about this stiches, but all I can do is walking down the Memory Lane with you and the crossed stiches. That I am in my country house does not make it easier. I am collecting embroideries for my old house. Look at those old beauties:

Honestly, you do not need to use yarn when doing a cross; I tried with tomatoes; crossed and uncrossed:

And of course words, cross words,

Go to Nadine on her blog Tiny Woolf for more crosses and stiches
